Peer-Reviewed Study Finds Monkeypox Primarily Transmitted Sexually by Men

July 22, 2022 Updated: July 22, 2022

The first major peer-reviewed study of monkeypox infections has found that the virus is primarily being transmitted through the sexual activity of gay and bisexual men in the United States and around the world.

The Journal of New England Medicine on Thursday published a study that looked at monkeypox infection across 16 countries between April and June, when cases began to emerge in countries outside of Africa.

The study reported on 528 infections diagnosed between April 27 and June 24, of which 98 percent were in gay or bisexual men with a median age of 38. Of these cases, 95 percent of the infections were suspected to have been transmitted through sexual activity—41 percent also had HIV.

Disease experts and officials from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) don’t consider monkeypox a sexually transmitted infection but have always said it could be transmitted through intimate contact, such as sex. It can also be spread by close contact and even infected clothing and bedding.

Until this year, monkeypox virus infection in humans has been rare outside of Africa, where it is endemic but mostly spread from animals. But there are now more than 16,000 cases worldwide in countries that mostly have not historically had monkeypox, according to the CDC.

Most of the cases appear to be in North America and Western Europe, where some of the first cases were linked to major LGBT events in Spain and Belgium, considered ground zero for facilitating transmission of the virus.

The leading theory among disease experts is that the monkeypox virus was sexually transmitted at those events.

An uptick in recent U.S. cases suggests transmission occurred at the tail end of Pride Month in late June and early July, based on the study finding that incubation is between three and 20 days (usually seven days).

Republican Party Attracting More Diverse Candidates Than Ever

The GOP ‘does seem serious about reaching out to minority voters’

By Patricia Tolson

July 20, 2022 Updated: July 20, 2022

While the GOP has often been labeled by opponents as a fraternity of “old white men,” a new cohort of minorities, first-generation immigrants, and moms are bringing a fresh wave of diversity, youth, and a whole new perspective to the Republican Party.

A recent report (pdf) by the Congressional Research Service showed that as of June 22, the average age of U.S. House members was 58.4 years. The average age for U.S. Senators was 64.3 years. The average age of Congressional Democrats was slightly higher than that of Republicans at 60 over 58, respectively.

But that landscape is shifting as young, tech-savvy people who gained success outside of the political arena prepare to bring a new perspective to Washington.

Another study (pdf) of the 2020 election cycle shows that while white men make up about 30 percent of the nation’s population, they make up 62 percent of America’s political officeholders, dominating both chambers of Congress and 42 state legislatures, as well as controlling a multitude of other statewide positions like governor, mayor, sheriff, and school superintendent.

By contrast, while women and minorities constitute 51 percent and 40 percent of the American population respectively, only 31 percent of women and 13 percent of minorities hold elected offices, and incumbents usually win their primary elections.

Among the 2020 Republican primary candidates, 72.3 percent were white men and 20.2 percent were white women. Only five percent were minority men and even fewer, 2.6 percent, were minority women. By comparison, 38.4 percent of the Democrat 2020 primary candidates were white men and 30.1 percent were white women.

The Democrat Party had more candidates who were minority men and minority women, 17.6 percent and 14 percent, respectively.

All of that is beginning to change.https://www.theepochtimes.com/republican-party-attracting-more-diverse-candidates-than-ever_4577806.html

Three Amigos?

Putin, Iran, and Turkey are getting closer than ever. Saudi Arabia will allow flights from Israel now. Nations are picking sides. Where does Biden’s America stand? First stop for Biden on his trip to the Middle East was not in Israel, but what liberals call Palestine. Keep your eyes on the Middle East. America is not the center of the world. Israel is. rh

Aerospace Entrepreneur Donates $10 Million to Gov. Ron DeSantis Reelection Effort

A Nevada aerospace entrepreneur has donated $10 million to support Florida Gov. Ron Desantis’s re-election campaign.

News of the $10 million donation was published by the Friends of Ron DeSantis Statewide political committee on its website on Thursday. The donation was made on July 7 and is the largest single contribution that DeSantis, a Republican, has received.

The donor is Robert Bigelow, the founder of Bigelow Aerospace, a “general contracting, research and development company” located in Las Vegas attempting to develop an “expandable habitat” in space.

The donation comes amid speculation about whether DeSantis will announce his candidacy for president in 2024.

Bigelow’s contribution is so large that it dwarfs The total combined donations made by DeSantis’s democratic competitors as of July 1.

The political committee has so far raised more than $130 million to “support and discuss” DeSantis in Florida. Record show the committee has Garnered a significant amount of financial contributions from big donors to macro donors alike.

That is my governor and he is a rock star. He will be President one day. Take that to the bank. rh
